At the same time many public events took place in order to consider the public opinions as well. In March 2006 the new masterplan for the Kulturforum finally was constituted by the lower house of Berlin. The new masterplan is influenced by the plannings and buildings at this place from the architect Hans Scharoun since 1964. He intended a versatile and sensitively interaction between architecture and landscape with urban qualities, what is defined in Berlin as the so called "Scharounsche Stadtlandschaft". Among others the buildings "Philharmonie" and "Neue Staatsbibliothek" are designed by Hans Scharoun. In addition to the famous existing buildings at the Kulturforum new buildings are planned, that - in first place - should be arranged decently on the edges of the Kulturforum. These new buildings are primarily reserved for cultural uses and - on the other hand - they should keep ready effective and indeed missing areas for shopping, restaurants and recreation at the Kulturforum. The free spaces at the Kulturforum around the historical Matthäikirchplatz are also going to be designed in a new and outstanding way - as you can see in the visualisations. The resulting costs for construction work and material are going to be financed by saling the possessions of land property, that are specified for new buildings. Since the masterplan is confirmed, the Senate Departement for Urban Development is now looking for suitable investors at the Kulturforum.
