Rudolph Stingel ! LIVE

The Tyrolean-born artist Rudolf Stingel has designed an installation especially for the Neue Nationalgalerie which takes the architecture of Mies van der Rohe as its point of departure and transforms the iconic buildings character with imposing results.

A giant carpet has been laid out on the surface of the floor in the gallerys large glass hall, whose pattern, dating back to an original 19th century Indian Agra rug, has been transposed into tones of black, white and grey.

Parallel to the installation, new paintings by the internationally renowned artist are on view on the lower floor.

The Esprit of Gestures.
Hans Hartung, Informel and its Impact

The theme for this group exhibition was inspired by the donation (brokered by Clemens Fahnemann, Berlin) in April of this year of 213 of Hans Hartung's printed works by the Fondation Hans Hartung & Anna-Eva Bergman in Antibes in the South of France. With this show then, Hartung's role as a printmaker will be honoured for the first time in more than 25 years.

With 605 print works to his name, the artist, (born in Leipzig in 1904 who lived in France from the 1930s until his death in 1989) created a diverse oeuvre of prints that was characterized by permanent change and innovation. Starting with Hartung's impulsive and yet precise sign language of gestural forms, the exhibition moves on to explore the phenomenon of the expressive line in abstract art from 1950 up to the present day. Numerous works by other artists, with their own similarly abstract-expressive pictorial language, form a dialogue with the many lithographs, etchings and woodcuts by Hartung himself. The exhibits range from the time of Art Informel and Abstract Expressionism around 1950 up to and including the present day.

27. Long Night of Museums

The Long Night of the Museums has long been a highlight in the Berlin calendar, attracting a loyal following of locals, as well as visitors from all corners of the globe. Museums and galleries across the city open their doors late into the night, offering guests an all-you-can-see buffet-style evening of exhibitions, guided tours and special events. A special shuttle bus service operates on several different routes, allowing you to visit even the most out-of-the-way attractions.

People are often unsure whether the Long Night of the Museums is suitable for non German-speakers. The answer is yes, it is! Due to the wide variety of venues and programmes on offer, German is not a pre-requisite to attending the Long Night. Many venues offer information in English, and many exhibitions will speak for themselves visually.
