20th Century Museum

The newly planned "Museum of the 20th Century" is primarily intended to expand the exhibition space of the neighboring "Neue Nationalgalerie" museum so that much more modern art from the 20th century can be shown at the Kulturforum.

After a long time, a new museum is being built at the Berlin Kulturforum - the "Museum of the 20th Century". Modern art of the 20th century from the collection of the Neue Nationalgalerie and from several donated private collections will be shown here.

An architecture competition was held for the building, which was won by the Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron. As things stand, the museum will cost 450 million euros and will open in 2026.

The building site has been used as a sculpture garden in recent years, but the planning by architect Hans Scharoun for the Kulturforum from the 1960s already envisaged a building here. Under the term "urban landscape", he wanted the entire Kulturforum area to be a loose connection between outstanding buildings and attractive open spaces. The Kulturforum is now getting closer to this goal.
